Midnight Train Radio

Mama Marko’s Midnight Train is a live radio experience hosted by Dee Jay Mama Marko (Mark Matos), and inspired by 1950’s American “border buster” radio shows, late 60’s FM rock & roll stations, Gen X college radio, and the long tradition of non-profit community radio.

In a landscape dominated by EDM and MP3 playlists, Mama Marko’s Midnight Train offers something different: an actual old school radio Dee Jay, playing curated sets of a wide variety of music from his impressive CD and vinyl collection, talking to the audience in a deep radio voice about the music they are listening to, making station calls and public service announcements, and taking each audience on an entirely unique musical journey of discovery.

The concept of the “Midnight Train” is tied to the tradition of American railroads and their importance in the formulation, innovation, and transformation of American musical styles. Each show is a musical ride along one or more of the colorfully named Amtrak lines: the Sunset Limited, Southwest Chief, the City of New Orleans, and so on. It’s the story of America told through a history of songs not bombs; exploring jazz, blues, rock & roll, soul, R&B, country & western, folk, and indie rock, with songs spanning a hundred year period in American Music: the 1920’s to the 2020’s.

If you have a bar or event that is looking for a memorable DJ night that people will be talking about afterwards, please consider Mama Marko’s Midnight Train, you and your clients will not be disappointed.
