MARK
MATOS
MUSIC

For the past twenty-five years, Portuguese-American composer and multi-instrumentalist Mark Matos’ cinematic blend of folk, blues, lo-fi, avant-garde, southern noir and spiritual jazz has been the sonic foundation of his work as producer and frontman of Trans Van Santos, Os Beaches and Campo Bravo, as well as his collaborations with Dead Meadow’s Jason Simon, Oliver Ray (Patti Smith Band), Portuguese electronic musician Fulano 47, Nathaniel Rateliff, and members of Deerhoof, Tom Waits’ band, Magnetic Zeroes, and Iggy & The Stooges.

His music has been featured on soundtracks for award-winning independent films by James Franco and others. His songs have been played on NPR, KEXP, and community and college radio stations from Bogata, Colombia to Columbia, South Carolina. He has performed at music festivals, old theaters, living rooms, and questionable night clubs in twelve countries and most of the United States. A fiercely independent and anti-establishment artist, Matos lives a secluded life with his family in Arizona, where he writes, performs, records music, and teaches the Art of American DIY to middle and high school students through his education project: Autonomous Music Preservation Society

Mark Matos’ Mingus Mountain Blues will be available on April 22 across most digital platforms, and on physical media, through his A.M.P.S. imprint.
